Riding a horse was something I had wanted to try for years. Either because it was too scary or not easily accessible, I had never gotten a chance to try it out.
So when I found out that there was a trial program being tested by the local recreation and park department, I took it as a sign that this was my chance to give it a try.
Pictured above is Romeo, my horse for my one hour guided ride. He was much taller than all the other horses in the group, so I was intimidated to say the least. However, he was very mellow and gentle throughout the ride.
It was scary being on top of such a large animal and not really knowing how to control him. Luckily, with the exception of having to keep him following in a straight line behind the other riders, I didn't need to control the reigns much.
I loved it when we crossed the street as a group and waved to the drivers as we passed by. It really taught me to be present since my attention was totally focused on Romeo. Overall, a great experience.
