Artist's Statement
Creating art allows me to express my feelings, thoughts and ideas. It reflects my perspective—the things that I find interesting or important. It is the execution of my personal vision into a tangible form that is communicated on an immediate, gut-level.
In my artwork, I like to explore the seemingly contradictory themes of individualism and interconnection. Individualism is reflected in the unique way each of us views the world, shaped by our personal upbringing, beliefs, and life experiences. Abstract art interests me because it invites individual interpretation. At the same time, I am interested in examining the concept of interconnection and its role as a source of inspiration. We are surrounded by many types of connections--between people, between a person and a place, or even between a person and a past. I want to capture the essence of these connections and build on them, creating the next link in the chain. For instance, if I come across something that inspires me to take a photo, I may use that photo as a starting point for an abstracted painting. That same painting may later spark a new series of other paintings.
What excites me and keeps me engaged is seeing ideas continually evolve through the creative process. In the same way, I hope that by creating art, I can continue to learn about myself and evolve as an artist and as a person.
