I'm learning the basics through a DVD set and a Dummies book and initial lessons are focused around building finger strength and dexterity. I'm still having problems with my fingers reaching the correct positions and maintaining the appropriate amount of pressure on the strings without my hand tensing up, but I'm making slow progress.
Surprisingly, I've been pretty good at putting in regular practice. I'm just going over simple finger exercises and remembering chords. I never thought that I'd actually say that I'm proud of the small calluses that are building up on my left hand.
Even though I'm still at the very early stages of learning guitar, it's great to hear the sounds that it can produce and feeling the vibrations of the guitar as I strum the strings is relaxing. I hope I have the dedication to keep on learning and building my skills. I can see the appeal of being able to create music.
