It's always fun to visit the library and borrow books on art technique and art inspiration. I've browsed through the "Paining the Sacred Within" book and it's pretty good. The abstract, layered, mixed media style resonates with my current work so I plan to dig in deeper with this book and possibly buy it to add it my library. I think it'll be good for inspiration.

I finally finished my three paintings. They're part of a series, but I'm not sure what to name this series yet.
My goal each year is to create about seven paintings, so I didn't quite reach my goal, but I'm glad I got three large paintings done. Looking forward to seeing how they look after I hang them on the wall. I typically like to have the Christmas tree up the weekend after Thanksgiving, but this year I've had a slow start.
I'm glad we finally finished decorating the tree. It's one of those things that takes time and effort and at times you wonder why the heck you're hanging plastic balls from a plastic tree when you could be napping, but it's worth it in the end. To see the twinkling lights giving off a warm glow in the chilly December evenings reminds me of simpler times. Since we were late in getting the tree up, I'll probably leave it up past Christmas to justify the effort. My stand-up comedy class ended back in November, but reminders about the class pop up at random times in my day to day life.
For instance, one of my classmates mentioned in her joke that she had vaginal bacteriosis (yeah, we can get pretty personal in class), and now it seems like I'm seeing articles everyone online and in magazines about this condition. Another classmate wrote a joke about how the word, "thus" bothered him. I've never really given "thus" much thought; I was neutral about the word, but ever since I heard the joke, it seems as if I'm seeing it everywhere. And now it feels like it jumps out from the page to taunt me. These examples show the frequency illusion at work where once you learn something it appears like it pops up everywhere. Be careful what you pay attention to, folks! Making this crochet granny square blanket has been a multi-year project. If have time, I can complete about two squares each weekend, so it makes for slow progress.
I laid out the squares that I've completed so far to see how much more work I have to do. At this point, I need to make 50 additional squares, 36 white squares and 14 brown/grey squares. Afterwards, will come the task of cleaning up the loose strings on on the back and combining them together. So, there's still a lot of work to do. I made some goody bags for a recent meetup with my former clowning classmates. It was a fun little project.
I got some holiday-themed candy and some random wind-up toys and put it them in a red plastic bag with white polka dots. I also made some personalize bookmarks that did double duty as gift tags. It was harder to make bookmarks for certain clowns because I had not seen them in costume much so I had to rely on my memory. |
