I haven't been doing any real painting recently, so this is the closest thing to painting I've done in a while. There was a plain stool in the basement. It's nothing fancy, but it was begging for some decoration. I didn't do much planning. First, I applied some primer and after doing some rough sketches with a pencil, I started painting in the shapes. Since I had some leftover sample paints, I just used that as my color scheme. Didn't really think about it much. Didn't really want to stress over the design. Ended up looking very cartoony.

Only three more sessions left in the movement class. It went by pretty quickly. This past week, we had to select a monologue from a play that the instructor assigned and create a movement piece to communicate the monologue. We had to apply lessons that we've learned so far. Compared to the ball project, I found this exercise easier because I had the words of the play to follow. I wasn't creating anything from scratch, like selecting music or creating a story or coordinating the my timing of my moves with music. Don't get me wrong--the exercise is still a challenge because I still need to think of how to convey the words and translate that into movement. I found that though we aren't reciting the words, it was still helpful to memorize the lines. It helps give meaning to the movement. Otherwise, I can imagine just going through the motions. Based on feedback the instructor gave me, I should work on leveraging my voice more and starting off with a stronger emotion. There's also a part where I need to "sing" --well not actually sing--but the character is singing so I have to make it appear like I'm singing. Though I'm not singing any text, I need to making a singing sound, so now I need to practice some singing. The image that I've posted here are some sketches I did from watching some dance videos online. I wanted to get inspiration for new ways to move. Not to say that I can move like the dancers in the videos, but I've found that we tend to move in certain ways that are familiar to us, so there are shapes that are completely foreign to us. It was helpful to try some of the postures and motions and give me more ideas to work from. |
