![]() For this piece, I first laid down a blue wash and then used a pen to draw the scene. The image is from a photo I took in Florence, Italy. Good to mix up some more realistic drawings with my usual abstract style.

![]() Here's another page from my sketchbook. For this page, I experimented with collage technique, pasting cut-out shapes and small bits of torn paper on the page. I also used some stenciling by dabbing paint over a piece of plastic canvas to get the grid effect on the left. I liked trying out different textures and building on layers to give the piece some depth. Overall, it was an interesting exercise and I hope to apply collage and stenciling again on a larger scale. My original plan was to use the sketchbook to experiment and play with different techniques. I tried textures, stenciling, stamping, and other sorts of techniques. Actually, I was surprising myself with how much I liked the outcome of my experiments. Because it turned out better than I expected, and because I didn't have enough time to fill out the entire sketchbook, I ended up not sending it back. I've decided to keep the sketchbook and complete it for myself. Here's a sneak peak at one page. For this page, I used gesso and acrylic and tried out some textures using stamping. More images of the sketchbook project to come! |
