![]() For this piece, I first laid down a blue wash and then used a pen to draw the scene. The image is from a photo I took in Florence, Italy. Good to mix up some more realistic drawings with my usual abstract style.

![]() This piece from my sketchbook was an experiment with mixed media. I started with an orange colored wash for the background. Then, I drew the main image of the cat and head. Afterwards, I cut out and pasted some pieces from a red envelope and lastly, I drew the boxes in as the final background. I wanted to challenge myself to try out new designs and new techniques, and this is one of the results. ![]() I've mentioned in a previous post that I've been busy repainting my kitchen cabinets. We started in May and completed the painting (including stripping, and applying a coat of poly, and cleaning) in late October. It was quite the learning experience and much of the reason for why it took us so long to complete this project was the fact that we were newbies to DIY and had to start from scratch. We did a lot of research into what to do and what to buy. Of course being new to the world of home improvement, it also meant we made a lot of mistakes and had to do rework. After the painting was completed, we "rewarded" ourselves by allowing ourselves to buy some furniture for the kitchen. We got a wheeled desk from CB2 (not really a traditional kitchen cart, but we liked it's simple lines and the ability to move it around the easily) and two chairs from Crate and Barrel. Here are the before-and-after pics. I've caught the cold twice since late November. I'm usually pretty good with staying healthy during the cold and flu season, but this year I haven't been as lucky. I had to miss two days of work this week to stay home and rest up.
Ultimately, I think I needed this rest because I haven't had a real break. After the busy season at work, I started some new projects and enrolled in a business class online. I was tempted to sign up for the next class that starts just two weeks after this class ends, but thinking about it some more, I think that's too soon. I need to get back to doing some arts and crafts. Another session starts in March, so I can sign up for that instead. Then of course, the busy season starts at work again. ![]() I haven't been diligent in keeping up with my posting because I've been preoccupied with an online business class that I'm currently taking. It's been a few years since I last took a business class and I wanted to treat myself to some training again, so I enrolled in the class. I still have two more weeks to go, but the final exam is tomorrow, so I will keep this brief until I have more time to get back to art. Here's a spread from my sketchbook. It doesn't have an official name, but the file is called "Yellow". |
