Last week, I went to an improv show. It wasn't as fun as I would have like, but I treated it like an educational field trip and tried to learn as much as possible from the outing. Some takeaways:
1) Justify everything. Don't think of it as a mistake if you have to call out weird things. It's actually what makes it a uniquely improv experience.
2) It was very impressive how the players incorporated almost everything the guest monologist said into the scenes and then managed to tie up everything at the end.
3) They let the scenes run a bit too long in some cases, but one thing all the players did was enter with confidence.
4) Psychologist scenes--we do that too!
5) The players showed good space work. It was very specific.
It was educational seeing the professionals do improv. It gives us something to shoot for and at the same time, it validates what we've been doing in our practices.
