It's the first time I've ever done anything with a public FB group. I usually reserve FB for following up on what's going on in my friends' lives or reading up on news, so it was a new experience to participant so publicly.
Here's how it works. The images above are from the first six days of the challenge. Each day we have a prompt from which we use to inspire our drawing. For instance, the first day's prompt was "circle" and the second day's prompt was "non-dominant hand".
The focus is more on the process of creating and less on the end result which is great because it takes the pressure off of having to produce good work. I've seen other forums for sharing art work and it quickly gets me down when I compare my stuff to what others are posting. There's little chance that I would post to those sites at my current stage.
Luckily this daily challenge has been very easy going. I'm currrently a day behind, but in general I've been keeping up with daily drawing. The folks on the page are very supportive. Every one does their own thing using whatever media they choose and however they wish to interpret each day's prompt. It's more about the journey of getting in touch with the your internal creative spirit instead of creating a nice looking image. That's exactly what I need right now.
I like the momentum that comes from doing a daily drawing. I spend about 15-20 minutes on each piece. With the pressure of creating a good piece off, I'm more free to experiment and play. I'm not saying that my competitive/critical/perfectionist side doesn't come out, but it plays less of a role. Most importantly, I think the pressure of having an accountability group where I can share my work has been key to keeping up with this challenge.
We don't have to post daily, or post at all, but for me, having some peer pressure is helpful. Otherwise, I'd probably be too lazy to create.
The challenge lasts for the month of January and my goal is to complete the entire month. Look for more posts to come!
