The Wall Street Journal recently featured a peppermint bark recipe so I used that. Not being a cook, even a simple recipe is a bit of a challenge to me, but it turned out okay.
Lessons learned:
1. While the recipe called for putting the dark chocolate in the oven to melt, I'm going to use the double boiler method instead. It seems faster and more straightforward and results in smoother chocolate.
2. Use higher quality chocolate.
3. Continue to increase the amount of peppermint extract.
4. Can just buy regular candy canes instead of going to a candy store whose peppermint sticks were a bit chalky. We like the crunchy style more.
5. Can try adding crushed Oreos to the base layer.
6. Can try 3 layers. White, dark, white.
7. Don't make the layers so thick.
8. Add some vegatable oil to make the chocolate look shinier.
9. Use more candy canes.
