For instance, in the break room at work, I overheard a woman telling her male coworker that she and her husband/partner? are trying to have a baby the natural way. They then start having a discussion about about sperm count. The man tells the woman that his friend used to go to the spa each day and then ended up with a sperm count of zero. Luckily, the friend has since stopped his daily spa visits and now his sperm count is back to normal.
I so jealous. Why don't have have discussions about sperm count with my coworkers?! All we talk about are the usual topics (weather, kids, work).
Anyway, I found their conversation very enlightening. I may not have stand-up class to leverage this material, but I'm taking an improv class. Even if I don't intentionally try to incorporate material into improv, the weirdest conversations influence what I think about and ultimately what may come out.
In a way, that's what's interesting about improv. All the trashy celebrity news, the office politics, the crazy rides on public transportation--all can become inspiration. Nothing goes to waste!
