So what does the card mean?
The rooster is a symbol of Portugal. You'll see rooster themed tchotchkes everywhere. The rooster is holding wine in one hand and Pastéis de Nata (egg tart) in the other because we had a lot of each on the trip. My favorite egg tart was in Belem. Our group had just finished visiting the Jeronimos Monastery and when we got out, our guide had a box of natas for us from a local pastry shop famous for their natas. I'm not a foodie by any means, but this treat was delicious. Warm and soft and subtly sweet. I tried natas from other spots during the trip, but this was the best.
The Chicken Place (not the real name of the eatery) refers to a restaurant that our guide loved to go to. He was super enthusiastic about it. Unfortunately my sister and I didn't have a chance to try it out.
For an odd reason, our guide kept on telling us one napkin per person every time he handed out treats so we had to add that to the card.
Portugal is also known for fish dishes and tiles so we incorportated that into the background. And finally, lots of sidewalks in Lisbon features stones laid out in a mosaic format, so we added that to the card as well.
Oh, I almost forgot the wine bottle features a cork, which is important because Portugal is the largest producer of cork in the world.
